Photo of the Week for March 29th to April 4th

Only going to be one photo from this week as I feel it should be on its own. It is something new from me, a star trail. This image consists of 99 images stacked together to form one image. I used a feature in photoshop that looks for differenced in the image and will merge it together. I set it up to look for the brightest spots on the images as the star trails would be the brightest areas. As I said this image consists of 99 images, which were a minute long exposure each. Thats right I was out in one area for about an hour and 45 minutes to get this shot.

You can click on the image to view it larger as it really doesn’t do it justice at this small of an image. This was taken in Spencer State Forest at Howe Pond.

This was my second trial at a star trail image. My first was just really messing around seeing what a half hour would do and it really wasn’t much. As you can see an hour and 45 minutes really doesn’t show much either!! I am hoping by the time I can really test this out in the late summer or fall when I will be up in New Hampshire camping for a few weekends. I really have a few places that I would love to try this out. Including at Lake of the Clouds Hut on my way to Mount Washington. That might have to wait till next year as I don’t see being on the mountains at night this year.

As a side note I will be away from the home base of Massachusetts for a little over 2 weeks so the next few POTW will be from some very different locations!! I will be in Miami for about a week and a half and will be headed to Tuscon, AZ right from Miami. This will be for a few corporate events and I hope to make some great images!! I always love going back to Miami as it was a home away from home for a good while, while in college!! Tuscon will be a new one for me can’t wait to see what AZ is like and how it treats me. Anyways hope to have some great images for you all in the upcoming weeks!! Also am planning if I have the time to try out a few city skyline star trails, not sure how well it will work out but hey can’t hurt to try!!
