Photos of the Week for March 22nd to 28th

The time has come once again, its spring sports season and while that normally means back outdoors I took a little detour and went back inside. In fact it is looking like I will be inside a little bit in the next few months as I have a good amount of weekend work that is indoors!! So much for getting outside, I am sure I will get out there a lot but in the meantime I will take the work wherever it comes in!!

Anyways this past weekend I shot something new Fencing!! The 2010 NCAA Fencing championships were held at Harvard University’s Gordon Track center, and it was a great event. They had 12 “Strips” going at one time!! It was amazing to see. I ended up covering the women’s semi-finals and final matches on Friday as well as the Men’s finals on Sunday. It was definitely a treat to cover something new as well as a challenge to make interesting and great action images!! On to the images!!

26 March 2010: Harvard’s Caroline Vloka lunges at Ohio State’s Margarita Tschomakova in their semi-final match. Vloka defeated Tschomakova 15-10 to advance to the final.

26 March 2010: Penn State’s Doris Willette lunges for the point against Northwestern’s Dayana Sarkisova in the women’s Foil semi-final match. Willette advanced to the final with a 15-2 victory over Sarkisova.

26 March 2010: Harvard’s Noam Mills lunges for the point but is struck first by the epée of Penn State’s Anastasia Ferdman. Mills defeated Ferdman with a sudden victory with a score of 8-7 to reach the final.

26 March 2010: Penn State’s Doris Willette (l) and Columbia/Barnard’s Nicole Ross (r) both touch each other in the 2010 NCAA Foil Championship match. Willette scored the point but lost the match to Ross 9-15.

28 March 2010: St. John’s Daryl Homer (l) jumps toward Penn State’s Daniel Bak and scores a point during the 2010 NCAA Men’s Saber Final at Harvard University’s Gordon Track Center. Homer defeated Bak 15 – 10.

28 March 2010: Notre Dame’s Gerek Meinhardt screams in jubilation after scoring the 15th and final point during the 2010 NCAA Men’s Foil Final at Harvard University’s Gordon Track Center. Meinhardt defeated Penn State’s David Willette 15 – 9.

28 March 2010: St. John’s Marat Israelian is thrown into the air by teammates after winning the 2010 NCAA Men’s Epée Final at Harvard University’s Gordon Track Center. Israelian defeated Air Force’s Peter French 14-10.
