Well I did mention I would be posting about more than just photography. I figured it has been a week since the Red Sox traded away arguably one of the best right handed hitters MLB has ever seen in Manny Ramirez. But I do have to say Manny who? I was thrilled when I saw we picked up Jason Bay from the Pirates as I knew he was a decent caliber player. Granted I was a little disappointed in how much we technically paid for him, but in the end Manny punched his ticket out of Boston when he mentioned that the Sox didn’t deserve a player like him.
Now this first week was pretty eventful for both players, they changed teams for the first time in years, and according to reports Manny didn’t actually expect to be traded, just thought it was something they did every year. The way I see it if he didn’t want to get traded why did he sign the paperwork to waive his no trade clause. Anyways the Manny being Manny era is over, at least in Boston. Now onto the Jason Bay experience, for at least the next year.
Looking at the stats for this year you would have to say that these 2 players are pretty much balanced. Going into the trade Manny was batting,
.299 AVG, 20 HRs, 68 RBIs, and .927 OPS
Jason was batting,
.282 AVG, 22 HRs, 64 RBIs, and .894 OPS
Well they are close and Bay was playing for a team that doesn’t have the pop the Red Sox do 1 through 9. So he probably had less chances for RBI’s.
Manny after trade,
.565 AVG, 4 HRs, 9 RBIs, and 1.745 OPS
Jason after trade,
.423 AVG, 1 HR, 6 RBIs, and 1.192 OPS.
Now as for after the trade Manny caught fire and Jason has done a whole lot for the Red Sox, including bringing the clubhouse back together, as I am sure the Manny fiasco was a hot topic in the clubhouse before the trade. The team seems a little bit more relaxed now.
Figure the first night Bay was in Boston he scored the only 2 runs of the night which included the game winner in the 12th. It all started with a wall ball triple, in which was almost a Home Run. Don’t think Manny would have legged it out for a triple though. He has been hustling the whole time, and I appreciate that as I am sure the team does too.
Anyways after this first week of the Jason Bay Experience I am happy and just hope that this continues into the post season.
